For strawberry topping, add halved and washed strawberries to a small pot with sugar and water. Place over medium low heat and cook until sugar dissolves into a thin syrup and strawberries soften, but don’t break down completely, about 4 minutes. Remove from heat.
To cook oatmeal, heat water in a medium pot until simmering. Add a pinch of salt and steel cut oatmeal. Stir well and turn heat down to low. Simmer the oatmeal for 25-30 minutes until it absorbs the water and thickens.
When oatmeal is cooked and tender, slowly whisk in vanilla whey protein powder. If you add the protein powder too soon or too fast, it will clump.
Serve finished oatmeal topped with strawberry topper and drizzled with Nutella.
